About Our First Celebrity Client
There are musicians who play by ear, and artists who paint canvases as if instructed directly from Picasso himself. Some people are just born to do what they do, gifted in areas they themselves take for light. It is said: "A hidden "craftier" rarely recognizes one's own talent" and such is the case with Nadia Vassell.
In the mist of Nadia's promising career as a hair care professional, she laughs in complete amazement. This isn't quite what Nadia had in mind for herself as she bustles off to photo and music video shoots, creating the hairstyles for models, singers and celebrity figures. It's funny, because Nadia is a model herself, whose hairstyling techniques and crafty approach were recognized by other hair stylist as she would fix the hair of other models.
How does an aspiring model stumble into cosmetology? Good question. That's just the story of Nadia Vassell, who's become a well sought after stylist amongst industry insiders. Like most talented people, Nadia was unaware that her knack for styles would be anything worth praising, let alone a career.
While growing up in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Nadia would spend the afternoons braiding the hair of childhood friends. By the age of ten, she'd perfected a braiding and cornrow technique that would be comparable to any professional. As childhood friends grew into teenagers, longing for the popular styles, Nadia grew with them too. Nadia's talent, though, not clear to herself, was well understood amongst family and friends waiting for her "services".
Upon her arrival to New York, Nadia was indeed focused on finishing High school. She graduated High school and pursued an Associate in Applied Science Degree at Laguardia College. She was also an aspiring model and could be seen in some hair magazines and others. Her days of "fixing" hair were behind her as she concentrated her efforts on building a top-notched portfolio for the modeling agencies. As fate would have it, Nadia met "new friends" and the discovery of her craft, was once again out the bag. Around this time, weaves were in great demand and Nadia had always been fascinated with the art of transforming weaves; creating the most undetectable styles. "I've always done weaves and I just love to see a weave look like you grew it" Nadia remarks, reflecting on her work.
Beyond Nadia's creatively undetectable weaves, her unique styles and promotion of healthy hair care aspects have warranted her works inclusion in magazines, commercial, video and television mediums; which are best displayed through artists like recording artists. Def Jam Artist- Rhianna, Russell Simmons Music Group-Black Budda Fly, Roc-A-Fella artist-Teirra Mari and a host of others. Her most recent works can be seen in Essence, Black Sophisticate, XXL Eye Candy, Smooth, along with the newly launched lifestyle magazine, Uptown and many more.
Only an artist can do so much in so little time. It's evident through Nadia's loyal customers and the many channel's her work appears, all suggest the rest of the world is taking notice to the talent of today's newest talent in hair care and hair design.
